Australian Made Since 1985

Blinds & Shutters, Gold Coast

Custom blinds, plantation shutters and outdoor ZipScreens for coastal homes — made in our own Queensland factory, measured and installed from Coomera to Coolangatta.

Made an hour up the road, not imported

Decor Blinds has manufactured window furnishings in Queensland since 1985. Every shutter, blind and screen we fit on the Gold Coast is made to measure in our own factory at Seventeen Mile Rocks — about an hour from Southport — rather than ordered in from overseas and assembled locally.

That matters more on the coast than most places. When a fitting corrodes or a fabric fails four years in, the question is whether anyone can still supply the part. We hold our own tooling and our own stock, so a repair is a repair, not a replacement.

The in-home measure and quote is free, and it is the same service we run in Brisbane. Someone comes to the property, looks at the aspect, and tells you what will and will not last in that position.

What the coast does to window furnishings

A Gold Coast home puts four things on a blind that an inland Brisbane home does not: salt, reflected glare, wind off open water, and more hours of direct UV. Each one fails a different component first.

Salt attacks the hardware first

On beachfront and canal-front properties — Palm Beach, Mermaid, Runaway Bay, the Sovereign Islands — salt reaches fixings, chains, brackets and powder coating long before it touches fabric. Specifying a good fabric on ordinary hardware is the most common mistake we see on the coast. We select corrosion-resistant componentry for exposed aspects and say so on the quote.

Glare comes off the water, not just the sky

Homes facing the Broadwater, a canal or the ocean take reflected light from below as well as direct sun from above. A blind that handles a western wall in Nerang will not necessarily handle a north-east waterfront room in Paradise Point. Sunscreen fabrics that block up to 95% of UV keep the view while cutting the glare — which is usually the whole reason someone bought the water frontage.

air

Wind on balconies and open alfresco

Standard outdoor blinds catch wind at the edges and tear out of their fixings. ZipScreen locks the fabric into side channels so there is no free edge, which is why it is the system we specify for high-rise balconies in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, and for exposed alfresco areas anywhere near the water. Optional wind sensors retract the blind before a squall does it for you.

Humidity, and why we do not use timber

Timber shutters swell, warp and split in coastal humidity. Thermalite has no wood content at all — it is a dense polyester foam, water resistant, and it will not crack, warp, shrink or discolour. It also insulates around three times better than timber, which is the difference between an upstairs bedroom being usable in February or not.

The range we fit on the coast

Roller blinds in a light-filled coastal living room

Roller Blinds

The most-asked-for product on the coast. Sunscreen fabrics hold the view and cut glare; blockout suits bedrooms facing the morning sun off the water. Dual-roller gives you both on one bracket. Over 3,000 fabric colours, all PVC-free and recyclable.

Our flagship, and the right call for humidity. No wood content, water resistant, 64mm or 90mm louvres, fixed, hinged, sliding or bi-fold. Backed by a 25-year transferable warranty on frames and panels — which carries to the next owner if you sell.

ZipScreen Outdoor Blinds

Fabric zips into side channels for a sealed, gap-free fit — sun, wind, rain and insects out. The system we specify for balconies and exposed alfresco. Wired or battery motors, with optional sun and wind sensors.

Honeycomb cellular blinds in a bedroom

Honeycomb Blinds

Trapped-air cells make these the most thermally efficient product we make. Worth considering for west-facing upstairs rooms and anywhere the air conditioning runs hardest through summer.

Where we measure and install

Our install teams cover the full coast, from the northern growth corridor down to the border.

Central and beachside — Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach, Miami, Burleigh Heads, Burleigh Waters, Palm Beach, Currumbin and Coolangatta.

Northern corridor and canal estates — Coomera, Upper Coomera, Helensvale, Pacific Pines, Hope Island, Sanctuary Cove, Paradise Point and Runaway Bay.

Inland and hinterland — Nerang, Ashmore, Bundall, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Reedy Creek and Mudgeeraba, where the priority is usually afternoon heat load rather than salt.

Gold Coast questions

Do you charge extra to measure and install on the Gold Coast?

No. The in-home measure and quote is free across the coast, the same as Brisbane. Our factory is at Seventeen Mile Rocks and our install teams cover from Coomera down to Coolangatta.

How long does a Gold Coast order take?

Manufacturing runs about 15 to 20 business days from approval — roughly four weeks door to door including measure and install. Because we make everything in our own Brisbane factory rather than importing, we are not waiting on shipping.

Will salt air damage blinds in a beachfront home?

It can, and it is the main reason coastal window furnishings fail early. Salt attacks fixings, chains and powder coating before it affects fabric. On beachfront and canal-front homes we specify corrosion-resistant hardware and fabrics engineered to resist mould and fade — and we will tell you at the quote which products we would not recommend for your aspect.

What works best on a high-rise balcony?

ZipScreen outdoor blinds. The fabric locks into side channels so there is no gap at the edge for wind to catch, which matters on exposed balconies in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Optional wind and sun sensors retract the blind automatically.

Are Thermalite shutters suitable for coastal homes?

Yes, and they suit the coast better than timber. Thermalite contains no wood, so it will not warp, swell, crack or discolour in humidity, and it is water resistant. That is why it carries a 25-year transferable warranty on frames and panels.
