Do shutters add value to your home?
The honest version, including when they are not the right spend.
Short answer: nobody can honestly tell you shutters add a specific percentage to your sale price, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
What they do is more specific than that. Shutters are one of the few window furnishings a buyer reads as part of the house rather than as something the seller might take with them — and in our case, the warranty goes with the house too.
They read as a fixture, not a furnishing
Curtains and blinds are soft furnishings. A buyer walking through mentally discounts them — they will be replaced, they may not even be staying, and they date the room to whenever they were bought.
A fitted shutter sits inside the window frame and reads as architecture. It is measured to that opening and it is not going anywhere. That changes how the room is valued in the buyer’s head, and it is why shutters photograph so well in listings.
The warranty transfers with the house
Thermalite frames and panels carry a 25-year warranty that can be transferred to the new owner, subject to our written approval and a site inspection. Hardware is covered for 5 years and the paint finish for 3.
This is the part worth understanding, because it is genuinely unusual. Almost every shutter warranty in the market is non-transferable and dies the day you sell. Ours does not, because we are the manufacturer — an importer cannot make that offer about someone else’s factory.

Low maintenance shows
A duster and an occasional damp cloth. No dry cleaning, no re-hanging, no fabric to fade. Buyers notice a house that looks easy to keep.
Privacy without gaps
Curtains leave gaps at the edge. A closed shutter does not, so you can have privacy at street level and still have the window open.
It works on the power bill
Thermalite insulates two to three times better than timber, and a sealed shutter holds the barrier where a blind leaks air around the edge.
It does not date
Plantation shutters have looked right for a century. Patterned fabric from six years ago does not, and a buyer prices that in.
Where they do not stack up
Being straight about it: if you are selling in the next few months, shutters are not the renovation with the best return. Paint and presentation will do more for less.
Shutters make sense when you are staying — you get the light control, the temperature and the privacy for however many years you are there, and the value at sale is a bonus rather than the reason. Anyone selling them to you purely as a resale play is overstating it.
