Shutters are made to the window, so there is no price list — the same room can vary by a lot depending on the openings. What we can do is set out precisely what moves the number, so that when you get a quote you can read it.
What drives the price
1. The size of the opening
The most direct factor. Material and labour scale with the window, so a standard bedroom window and a wide living room span are different jobs, not different sizes of the same job.
2. Louvre width
Ours run 64 mm to 90 mm. Wider louvres use more material per panel. They also suit larger windows better, so the two tend to move together.
3. Configuration
Fixed, hinged, sliding or bi-fold. Each carries different hardware and different labour. A sliding or bi-fold system costs more than hinged panels covering the same opening.
4. How it is fitted
Recess fit sits inside the window frame; face fit mounts on the architrave. The frame type and whether the window is square both affect what is required.
5. Panels over 1500 mm, and extras
Tall panels need a mid rail for support. Non-standard paint colours, unusual shapes and motorisation all add.
Why we quote instead of publishing prices
A square-metre rate looks helpful and is usually misleading. Two windows of identical area can differ substantially once you account for configuration, whether a mid rail is required, and whether the opening is square enough to recess fit.
A measure takes about half an hour, costs nothing, and produces a number you can actually rely on. It also means the measurement is our responsibility rather than yours — which matters on a custom product that cannot be returned.
Comparing two quotes properly
Price per window is rarely the whole story. Worth checking on both:
- What material, and how it behaves in a wet room or in direct sun. Timber, PVC and Thermalite are not equivalent.
- Where it is made, and what the lead time is. Weeks means local; months usually means imported.
- What the warranty covers and for how long, and critically whether it survives you selling the house.
- Whether installation is included, and who is liable if a measurement is wrong.
- Hardware spec, particularly stainless steel fixings if you are near the coast.
A cheaper quote is sometimes genuinely cheaper. Often it is a different product.
